Travel Guide: Seattle

Early March, we decided to take a little vacation since it was Grace’s spring break, and we both needed a little break from school / work. We initially planned on going to New York, but we didn’t have enough days. We decided to go to Seattle since it was just a short plane ride from LA!

This was Grace’s second trip to Seattle, but it was Joanna’s first. While it was freezing (compared to LA), we actually managed to go to Seattle when it was sunny and nice! But sadly we brought the rain back from Seattle to LA – oops!

Where We Stayed

Kimpton Palladian Hotel
2000 2nd Ave.
Seattle, WA 98121

We picked a hotel that was in Downtown Seattle and central to a lot of places we wanted to go to! Plus it was a super short walk to Pike Place Market.

We loved the location and the amenities. There was always lemon water in the lobby. They had a happy hour with local wines and beers. They also had complimentary coffee and tea in the mornings, which was perfect to grab on the way out.

While the hotel gym was small, it had everything. It had a couple treadmills and ellipticals. It also had a cable machine, TRX, jump ropes, and tons of kettlebells and dumbbells.

Workout Classes

SoulCycle
10470 NE 4th Street
Bellevue, WA 98004

We actually took a 30 minute Uber ride each way to go from Downtown Seattle to Bellevue to take a SoulCycle class (Soul addicts for sure!). We loved our class with Britt! She had great energy and even led a short booty workout after the class on mats.

However, now there’s a location open in Seattle too! So you can avoid taking that 30 minute Uber ride over.

Activities

Chihuly Garden and Glass
305 Harrison St.
Seattle, WA 98109

Love how bright this is! Leads right to the garden.

This was on our must-list. The artwork is seriously so beautiful and gorgeous. You can walk through it pretty quickly. We spent the most time outside in the atrium and the garden. We also got to see a demonstration of how glass is blown!

Chihuly is located next to the Space Needle, which happened to be closed for renovation when we were there.

Also, you can take a monorail from Downtown Seattle at the Westlake Center Mall to the Space Needle. It is $2.50 each way, cash only!

First Nordstrom
500 Pine St.
Seattle, WA 98101

This Nordstrom is seriously huge! It has everything. While it is just like every other Nordstrom, the selection was way better than we have ever seen.

Pike Place Market
85 Pike St.
Seattle, WA 98101

You definitely can’t go to Seattle without going to Pike Place Market! There is just so much to do there. The First Starbucks store is there, as is the Gum Wall. You can also find a lot of different restaurants, shops, and coffee shops. We would highly recommend sampling all the delicious fruit and watching the fish throwing (happens anytime a fish is purchased at the fish market).

Fremont Troll
North Troll Ave
Seattle, WA 98103

It’s literally a troll under a bridge! It’s pretty fun to go see him and climb on to grab some photos.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room
1124 Pike St
Seattle, WA 98101

If you love Starbucks, you should definitely come here. It’s HUGE. We loved doing the tasting even though we don’t drink much coffee anymore. Plus it was really cool to see the beans being roasted and have the opportunity to buy beans and merchandise that weren’t sold at a regular Starbucks.

Healthy-ish Eats

Cinnamon Works
1536 Pike Pl
Seattle, WA 98101
(In Pike Place Market)

Cinnamon Works is Grace’s dream come true. It’s a bakery that has basically every “-free” option (ex. gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free).

Not only do they have regular treats, but they also had a ton of dairy free options. Grace stopped by everyday during the trip to try at least one thing. Definitely liked the vegan almond lemon poppyseed muffin and the vegan chocolate chip walnut cookie the best!

Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt
1500 Pike Pl
Seattle, WA 98101
(In Pike Place Market)

Best greek yogurt you will ever taste! Joanna doesn’t like yogurt, but she loved this one. Our favorites were the marionberry and the granola one.

Pro tip: If you want to take it home with you, buy it the day before and ask them to freeze it! If you pick it up right before you go to the airport, you can get through TSA with it!

Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya
320 E Pine St
Seattle, WA 98122

While ramen isn’t usually “healthy,” this place had the option to get kale noodles. Sadly they were out by the time we got there, but loved that it was an option.

The Walrus and the Carpenter
4743 Ballard Ave NW
Seattle, WA 98107

Everyone recommended this place to us! And we loved it! Definitely come right before they open at 4 pm. Happy hour is 4-5pm and 50% off oysters at that time.

Also, don’t be like us and the other party that arrived at the same time as us and knock on the door of the restaurant with the door to the street. It’s a different restaurant. To get to The Walrus & the Carpenter, you have to enter the building and go all the way down the hallway.

Cheat Day Eats

Biscuit Bitch
1909 1st Ave
Seattle, WA 98101
(In Caffe Lieto)

There are multiple Biscuit Bitch locations. While this one doesn’t offer the full menu, it was the closest to us, since it was right by Pike Place Market.

It’s loud, in-your-face, crowded, but delicious. Not sure about the other locations, but this one had a very long wait to get your food. You also had to fight a little to grab a table. But grab a coffee and wait it out! It’s rich, but delicious.

PIke Place Chowder
1530 Post Aly
Ste 11
Seattle, WA 98101
(In Pike Place Market)

This was our first meal in Seattle! It was chilly for us when we got there, so it was great to have some soup to warm us up.

We tried 2 different chowders and a lobster roll. They were all so fresh and so good.

PS. Take some Lactaid if you’re lactose intolerant like us… lol

Piroshsky Piroshky
1908 Pike Pl
Seattle, WA 98101
(In Pike Place Market)

So, Grace had been raving about this place for a long time to Joanna. Sadly when we went the first time together, we didn’t get the freshest ones and we picked one that was too heavy.

However, right before we left, we grabbed some more to take back for our family. And Joanna LOVED the beef one she took home and ate almost a day after.

So we would recommend the beef one and the smoked salmon one for the savory ones. Not sure which sweet ones would be good.

The line can get long, but it moves pretty fast. So we highly recommend stopping by.

Serious Pie
316 Virginia St
Seattle, WA 98121

We shared 2 different pizzas, and they were both so delicious. Would recommend coming here for some pizza, but we haven’t tried any other pizza places in Seattle.

Overall, we really loved Seattle. We loved walking around everywhere. While it was way colder than it was in Los Angeles, it was nice to get a different weather (…and season). The city is also super clean. We would definitely go again, but thinking we would want to combine it with a trip to Portland or to Vancouver.

Have you been to Seattle before? What would you recommend?
