Healthier Candy Options

You know we’re all about balance; it’s in our blog name, exercise WITH extra fries. To us, being healthy is finding that right balance, which is different for everyone. A lot of times that means finding a healthier alternative for a food we like instead of completely giving it up. For example, instead of giving up candy, why not find healthier candy options?

Grace has such a major sweet tooth, and it’s always hard for her to say no, especially sour gummy candy. She can seriously go through an entire bag of Sour Patch Kids so fast. So, we found some healthier options. While they may not be completely “healthy,” they are healthier with better ingredients and way less processed!

We found all these healthier candy options at Whole Foods. But a lot of them are also available on Amazon, which we’ve linked for you to shop if you want!

Swedish Fish -> SmartSweets Sweet Fish

There are only 3g of sugar in the whole bag! Plus there are 28g of fiber.

All the other SmartSweets are so good! At first, Grace hated SmartSweets. But after giving it a couple more tries, she loves them. Her favorite one is the peach rings, followed by the sweet fish. The Sour Blast Buddies are also amazing, but don’t expect them to taste like regular “sour gummy bears” like the Haribo ones. They’re different, but good in their own way.

Reese’s -> Lily’s Peanut Butter Cups

There is no sugar added in the Lily’s Peanut Butter cups! All of the Lily’s chocolates have no sugar added, which is why love using Lily’s all the time when baking.

We love their chocolate bars especially their hazelnut one. They also have dairy-free options!

M&M’s -> Little Secrets Chocolate Pieces

They use natural coloring instead of things like “yellow dye #5.” It’s so much better than using artificial flavors & colors. Little Secrets is also fair trade chocolate.

Dove Chocolate Cashews -> Justin’s Cashew Butter Covered Cashews

There’s less sugar, better ingredients, and taste just as creamy and delicious. We love Justin’s in general for all their nut butters and especially their white chocolate peanut butter cups. We usually buy the minis because they’re the perfect bite-size! We have to hide the bag from each other so we don’t finish it all too quickly!

KitKat’s -> Little Secrets Crispy Wafers

There are no artificial colors & flavors or high fructose corn syrup in the Little Secrets crispy wafers! It’s made with real ingredients. We honestly preferred the Little Secrets crispy wafers! They tasted way better.

Twizzlers -> RJ’s Licorice

There are no artificial colors & less sugar in RJ’s Licorice! The texture of it was also much softer and chewier while the Twizzlers tasted and felt very artificial.

Chocolate Bars -> Hu Chocolate Bar

Hu chocolate bars are vegan, paleo, dairy-free, and gluten-free. There are so many different flavors! Jo’s favorite is the Almond Butter Puffed Quinoa. We love Hu chocolate bars because the chocolate isn’t overly sweet and tastes that it’s real, high-quality chocolate without the fake additives.

Twix -> Little Secrets Cookie Bars

There are no artificial colors & flavors or high fructose corn syrup in Little Secrets. Just like all the other Little Secrets products, we honestly prefer these over the original. As kids, we always ate the original ones and loved them. But once we tried the Little Secrets, we won’t be going back.
