Healthy St. Patrick’s Day Drinks

St. Patrick’s Day is almost here! Even though we typically don’t celebrate, we’ve come up with healthy St. Patrick’s Day drinks, both with alcohol and without alcohol, so you can be festive without drinking beer dyed with some artificial green food coloring. Plus you can make all of these at home while we’re practicing social distancing.

Non-Alcoholic Healthy St. Patrick’s Day Drinks

Healthy Shamrock Shake

You can get a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake, but it’s full of sugar and artificial flavoring. Instead, you can can make healthy Shamrock shake at home with just a few simple ingredients. Check out our recipe!

Celery Juice

Celery juice is a huge wellness trend still. Even though we don’t believe celery juice is the cure all for everything, we still like to drink it since there’s nothing wrong with getting in extra greens (and we actually like the taste of celery)!

We either make our own by juicing organic celery or buy a bottle from Suja or Evolution Fresh.

Matcha

We love a good matcha! It is a great source of antioxidants, boosts your metabolism, and gives you energy without the jitters since there’s caffeine & l-theanine.

We typically just do an iced matcha with water. We mix in 1-2 teaspoons of ceremonial grade matcha into a cocktail shaker or mason jar with ice and 12 oz of water. We shake and mix well before pouring into another cup over ice.

You can also make a matcha latte by choosing to add a milk and sweetener of your choice. Here’s a good matcha latte recipe from the Minimalist Baker.

Green Smoothie

A green smoothie is a great way to start your day! One of our favorite smoothies is the Whole Foods Paleo Green smoothie. If you want to make it at home, we’ve found a great recipe from Boys Ahoy.

8 oz coconut milk (from a carton)
1/2 frozen banana, diced
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1 tbsp all natural almond butter (drippy kind)
1-2 scoops Unflavored Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides *optional*
1 heaping handful baby kale
1 heaping handful spinach
3-4 ice cubes (add more for thicker consistency)

Place all of the ingredients in a powerful blender and blend together until creamy and smooth. Should be a thick smoothie (add more ice if necessary).

Green Juice

We love to sip on some green juice throughout the day. Typically we’ll get our green juice from Evolution Fresh since they have so many great combinations.

However, here are some easy green juice recipes if you wanted to make your own at home.

Alcoholic Healthy St. Patrick’s Day Drinks

Green Beer

Hear us out, just because your typical green beer is colored with food coloring doesn’t mean all green beer has to be.

You can color it naturally with spirulina. We took a light beer like Chang and added a little spirulina to it. A little goes a long way! It’ll make your beer a darker green. Also it will make your beer foamy, so be sure to have some additional room in your glass for the foam!

You can also color your beer with matcha.

Skinny Spicy Margarita

We love a spicy margarita, but we do micromanage how it’s made per The Skinny Confidential.

So here’s a twist on her skinny margarita with lime & jalapeno to make it festive.

4 oz ounce blanco tequila
2 ounce of Cointreau (or Triple Sec)
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
Lime
Lemon
A little agave

1/2 jalapeno sliced thin
Himalayan pink salt

Muddle the jalapeno slices with lime juice. Add tequila, a couple squeezes of lemon, Cointreau, and a little agave (to your taste).

Use a lime to rim the glasses & add salt to only half the rim. Garnish with lime wedges.

Apple Kale Mimosa

We first heard about kale mimosas at Malibu Farm and have been so curious to try one! Here’s a great apple kale mimosa recipe from Tipsy Bartenders.

4 oz champagne
1 oz vodka
Bunch kale
Handful green apple slices

Muddle kale and green apple in base of glass. Add vodka and stir well. Strain mix into base of champagne glass and pour champagne on top. Garnish with an apple slice.

Cucumber Cooler Cocktail

This cocktail from Minimalist Baker sounds so refreshing and light with the fresh lime and mint. We’d recommend leaving out the optional sugar to keep it lighter.

1 1/2 oz gin
4-6 slices cucumber
1/4 medium lime (sliced)
4 oz tonic water
6 mint
leaves
1 Tbsp sugar (optional)

Add mint, lime, gin, and sugar (if using) to shaker and muddle. Add cucumber slices to shaker and shake vigorously. Pour mixture over glass filled with ice and top with tonic water. Stir, let set for a few minutes for the flavors to enhance and enjoy.

All these healthy St. Patrick’s Day drinks are making us consider celebrating this year! Let us know if you try any of them and tag us on Instagram if you do!
